"His reports are professional, accurate, and timely" - Liz Merriman, Nauticat 33
Hello, I am Steve Hayes.
My career started in aviation as an A&P mechanic (15 yrs), where I also earned an IA - Inspector Authority - from the FAA, and worked for Raytheon Aerospace (9 years). I moved to the pacific northwest in 1988 and chose to stay, which brought me into the construction trade. I owned and operated my contracting business for 14 years. During that time I attained my captains license with a 100 ton rate and worked for a marine salvage and rescue company.
Being on the water was, for me, the reason to live here and that meant owning and maintaining boats. I have owned both wood and fiberglass vessels of power and sail. I have worked for Vessel Assist N.W. as a tow captain, for the Guemes Island Ferry as deckhand, and was on-call for oil spill response with Global Marine. I have attended classes, studied many manuals/ books on boat maintenance, and passed ABYC testing for Standards, Systems and Marine Electrical. I was accepted into the Society of Marine Surveyors (SAMS®) as a Surveyor Associate in 2011. SAMS Accredited Marine Surveyor in 2015.
My surveys have always been accepted by the insurance industry as they are neat, professional and accurate. I am dedicated to the safety and well being of the marine industry, and to a clean environment.
